Why Legend(and similar) weapons are unhealthy for WolfTeam
If you asked me what makes a FPS game fun, I would say simply the diversity of weapons that you can use and the gameplay itself. Because diversity allows players to try out various guns that work against 'the best' of the current time. In WolfTeam this was the case in 2007-2014. For seven years, players could easily use a variety of weapons(yes, even when the first op cash items came, it was still possible to play with weaker weapons because things weren't that strong). Sadly a lot of that has changed with the introduction of legend weapons and similar ones. Due to this a lot of old weapons are just simply not good enough to match the cash weapons at this point of time and players are forced to adapt to use the same weapons, which honestly, is counter-intuitive. Call me delusional or hypocrite if you like, but this is the reality of the diversity in WolfTeam.
Because of these 'legend' weapons, etc. the weapon diversity has suffered heavily. There are practically just a few viable options and they're mostly locked behind cash(or you can get them as a gift, even).
Here are some examples of the weapons that are quite the powerhouses.
If you look at the statistics there are some similarities that are also applicable in other premium weapons. To list some other weapons -
There is a philosophy in the newer cash weapons that the developers have insisted on -
Either the damage per shot is similar or the head damage is similar. Often the weapons tend to have hidden statistics behind them which make them more deceiving than what their shown stats are. Is this healthy for the game overall? Not exactly - The game is warped towards heavily relying on the powerful stats of aforementioned weapons (and others of similar category), therefore leaving no room for other lower weapons to exist in-game. I could be called a hypocrite for thinking like this by modern players but i'm of the belief that players should be able to use weaker weapons to match the stronger ones. Working for the kill is usually pretty enjoyable than just outright relying on the stat-check of a weapon doing the job for you in a brief moment. Did you know that EM4A1's recoil is practically a joke? It has next to no recoil in it. Almost like the cash weapons have been dumbed down for players? Truly a masterpiece of a weapon!
- High damage? Check!
- One shot capability? Check!
- Practically no recoil? Check!
- Sprinting with this weapon and getting kills? Check!
- Git gud? Check!
- Fool-proof way to play the game? Check!
- Stat Check? Check!
I'd like to compare two weapons in the below -
One is bought with Aeria Points(AP, upper) and the latter one with gold. If we look at Fanas PT, it should, by looking at its stats, be able to perform better in some areas than the Legend, but surprisingly that doesn't seem to be the case. It doesn't also help that there are characters that tank damage superbly so Fanas PT is heavily outclassed when comparing to Legend Royal here. Comparing Fanas PT to M6A2 Legend Royal, there's damage discrepancy and overall performance in gameplay. Royal outperforms surpringly well and is often the choice of weapon next to EM4A1 Legend- series. Gold weapons are simply just not good enough and shafted out of the game and are replaced with some minor, but strong cash weapons. This is strongly also pushed by the current playerbase on WolfTeam. There's sheer lack of no respect for diversity and adversely, the characters that are in-game just makes the older generation weapons look like total garbage.
